In 2010, the underground pipes market is projected to return to growth, albeit at a marginal level, as the economic recovery remains fragile. This is in contrast to growth of 6% and 1% recorded in 2007 and 2008 respectively. By the end of the current year, the UK market for underground pipes is anticipated to reach £629.2 million, representing an overall growth of only a moderate 1% compared with 2006. A stronger development in the market is believed to have been hindered due to the effects of the rising manufacturing and installation costs and environmental constraints.

Market Forecast 2011-2015:

The UK market for underground pipes is anticipated to increase year-on-year during the forecast period, with growth rates expected to fluctuate between moderate a 2% and 3% in real terms. In the short-term the market for underground pipes is forecast to continue to be negatively affected by adverse market conditions, with the economic recovery likely to remain fragile for the foreseeable future. Nonetheless, MBD expect the UK market for underground pipes to increase in 2011, albeit at a moderate 3% to reach £646.9 million (at 2010 prices), reflecting signs of recovery in a number of key enduse industries, most notably the civil engineering sector. However the outlook in other sectors, in particular construction, remains subdued. Overall, the UK market for underground pipes is expected to increase by a cumulative 14% in real terms between 2010 and 2015.
