PRESS RELEASE: UK UNDERGROUND PIPES MARKET RESEARCH REPORT

RELEASED: JANUARY 2010

After researching the UK underground pipes market development and taking into account various other factors the following conclusions can be drawn from MBD's report:

MARKET REVIEW 2005-2009:

Demand for underground pipes has been increased during much of the review period, largely reflecting the relatively buoyant construction and civil engineering sector in recent years. In 2009, however, the value of the underground pipes market contracted by an estimated 7% to £637.1 million, reflecting reduced construction activity and lower levels of civil engineering output. Prior to 2009, the value of the underground pipes market increased by a cumulative 9% between 2005 and 2008.

MARKET FORECAST 2009-2013:

Demand for underground pipes is expected to be constrained in the short term, due to continued adverse market conditions in the construction and civil engineering sectors. Indeed, the market for underground pipes is expected to further contract in 2010, albeit at a marginal level. However, demand is expected to return to growth in 2011, although this is somewhat dependent on a more positive economic development. Between 2010 and 2014, sales of underground pipes are anticipated to increase by a cumulative 11% in real terms, with annual growth levels expected to oscillate around 3%.
