Released: March 2011 After researching the UK tubes & pipes market development and taking into account various other factors the following conclusions can be drawn from MBD's report: Market Review 2006-2010: In 2010, the value of the UK tubes and pipes market increased by an estimated 4% to £3051.3 million, reflecting tentative signs of a slow economic recovery and improved market conditions in a number of key enduse industries. This is in contrast to a significant decline of 17% recorded in 2009, which was largely a result of reduced construction output. However, MBD believe a stronger decline has been avoided by continued investment in a number of infrastructure sectors, notably the road sector. Market Forecast 2011-2015: In 2011, demand for tubes and pipes is projected to increase by 3% to £3131.5 million (at 2010 prices), partly reflecting increased capital expenditure by utility companies and an anticipated moderate return to growth in the housebuilding sector. However stronger growth is expected to be hindered by the continued uncertain economic outlook and public spending cuts, affecting spending on public build and infrastructure projects. Demand for tubes and pipes is anticipated to increase in the following four years, with annual growth levels projected to fluctuate between 2% and 3% in real terms. In 2015, the value of the UK tubes and pipes market is forecast to reach £3481 million (at 2010 prices), representing overall growth of 14% in real terms compared with 2010.
