Released: January 2011 After researching the UK security equipment market development and taking into account various other factors the following conclusions can be drawn from MBD's report: Market Review 2006-2010: In 2010, demand for security alarms and systems, including sales and rental income, increased by an estimated 2% to £2917 million, fully negating a 2% decline recorded in 2009. Prior to this growth was achieved in each year between 2006 and 2008, although annual growth levels did not exceed 3% in nominal terms. Overall, the value of the market is believed to have increased by a moderate 3% over the five year review period. Market growth has been restricted due to the maturity of a number of sectors. Indeed, in 2008 and 2009, the market was negatively affected by the adverse economic conditions and the reduced level of construction activity, in particular the residential and commercial sectors. The modest increase in 2010 reflects improvements in the wider economic environment during the year, although the recovery remains somewhat fragile. During the latter part of the review period demand has mainly been generated by replacement systems sales and technical developments. Market Forecast 2011-2015: The UK market for security alarms and systems, including sales and rental income is expected to increase by a moderate 1% in real terms to an estimated £2956 million (at 2010 prices) in 2011, reflecting tentative signs of an improvement in the economic climate and the anticipated moderate upturn in construction activity. This is forecast to be followed by further increases in the following three years. Overall, the value of the security alarms and systems market is projected to increase by a cumulative 7% in real terms between 2010 and 2015, peaking at £3127 million (at 2010 prices) in the latter year. A stronger market development is likely is to be restricted by the relative maturity of a number of sectors in the security systems & alarms market. However, some sectors of the market are expected to continue to show growth potential, boosted by technological developments, notably the CCTV, access control and integrated systems sectors.
