Market Review 2006-2010:

In 2010, the UK market for recruitment consultants is projected to increase by 3% in nominal terms to £23.83 billion. This is largely a reflection of improved economic conditions, although a stronger increase is likely to be hindered, as the economic recovery remains fragile. Prior to this, UK demand for recruitment consultants declined by 7% and 12% in 2008 and 2009 respectively, reflecting the severe economic downturn, a strong rise in redundancies, and the general cut back on recruitment by companies. This decline is in contrast to growth of 5% and 6% recorded in 2006 and 2007 respectively, which can be attributed to low levels of unemployment, high levels of economic activity and growth in a large number of key sectors.

Market Forecast 2011-2015:

The UK market for recruitment consultants is anticipated to decline by 2% in real terms, reflecting the continued volatile economic climate, restricted spending on recruitment in a number of sectors and public spending cuts. The UK market for recruitment consultants is expected to return to growth in 2012, although this is dependent on an economic recovery. Between 2012 and 2015, annual growth levels are anticipated to fluctuate between 2% and 3% in real terms. In the latter year, the value of the market is projected to reach £25.77 million (at 2010 prices), equivalent to overall growth of 8% in real terms.
