UK Process Plant Market Development Report Press Release: UK Process Plant Market Development Report

Released: March 2011

After researching the UK process plant market development and taking into account various other factors the following conclusions can be drawn from MBD's report:

Market Review 2006-2010:

In 2009/10, total process plant expenditure is believed to have increased by a moderate 1% to £7738 million, partly offsetting the 8% decline recorded in 2008/09. Prior to that, growth was recorded in each year between 2005/06 and 2007/08, culminating in an increase of 12% in nominal terms. The downturn in 2008/09, is largely a result of the economic downturn and global financial crisis affecting investment levels in a number of industries. In 2009/10, investment levels are believed to have increased moderately, reflecting tentative signs of a slow economic recovery.

Market Forecast 2011-2015:

Total UK process plant investment is expected to increase during much of the five year forecast period up to 2014/15, except for a marginal decline projected for 2012/13. Overall, process plant expenditure is anticipated to increase by 14% in real terms between 2009/10 and 2014/15. The chemical industry is expected to continue to represent the largest sector for process plant expenditure, accounting for between 25% and 26% of total expenditure throughout the forecast period. The trends in spending in the various sectors are anticipated to differ somewhat, with process plant spending in the electricity generating industry projected to demonstrate the strongest growth. Indeed, expenditure in the sector is forecast to increase by a significant 88% between 2009/10 and 2014/15, reflecting further strong investment in new electricity generation plants, in particular new renewable energy sources.
