Released: April 2011 After researching the UK passive fire protection materials market development and taking into account various other factors the following conclusions can be drawn from MBD's report: Market Review 2006-2010: In 2010, demand for passive fire protection materials is estimated to have declined by 5% to £1190.5 million, continuing the trend for decline evident in recent years. Indeed, in 2008 and 2009 demand decline by 5% and 21% respectively. Despite growth in the first part of the review period, a cumulative decline of 22% is evident between 2006 and 2010. This trend is largely a reflection of the adverse market conditions, with the economic downturn and severely reduced construction activity. Market Forecast 2011-2015: The fire doors sector is expected to continue to account for the largest share of the passive fire protection materials market throughout the five year forecast period. The value of the sector is expected to increase overall by 12% compared with 2010, despite a projected moderate decline in 2011. Indeed, in the latter part of the forecast period the sector is expected to benefit from the trend towards flats and apartments, which require more fire doors.
