UK Nursery Education Market Development Report Press Release: UK Nursery Education Market Development Report

Released: August 2010

After researching the UK nursery education market development and taking into account various other factors the following conclusions can be drawn from MBD's report:

Market Review 2006-2010:

The total number of children aged three and four years old in early years education in the UK is believed to have been 1.34 million as of 2010. The London area represents the region with the largest number of children in early years education, accounting for 16% and 14% of the total in England and the UK respectively.

The highest proportion of children under five years old in maintained schools is found in the North East (83%), while the lowest is found in the South West (44%). Again, this partly reflects the distribution of earnings, with the provision of private day nurseries higher in the South of England than in the North.

Market Forecast 2011-2015:

The continued support for the development of the day care industry from the Government, combined with a more unified approach to the whole pre-school education system through the DfES, is anticipated to result in further growth in the market. A number of recent government policies and programmes are likely to lead to an increase in the number of publicly funded nursery places, which is likely to exert a positive influence on the market.

The number of full day care centre providers is anticipated to increase throughout the forecast period, culminating in overall growth of 15% compared with 2010, reaching an estimated 21 120 providers by 2015. The number of places is projected to increase by a significant 24% to 909 996, compared with 2010. The number of places per nursery is expected to increase from 39.9 in 2010 to an estimated 43.1 in 2015.
