After researching the UK m&e contracting market development and taking into account various other factors the following conclusions can be drawn from this MBD report:

Market Review 2007-2011:

In 2009, mechanical & electrical contracting output in Great Britain is believed to have contracted by 9% to £23.5 billion. There was something of a recovery in 2010, but this has stalled somewhat in the current year. Initially in the recession the mechanical & electrical contracting market was initially not as strongly affected by the economic downturn as the construction sector, as demand was generated by the repair & maintenance work and by public sector new build projects.

Market Forecast 2012-2016:

Total mechanical & electrical contracting output in Great Britain is expected to grow modestly over the next few years, though the recovery is proving more difficult already in 2011 than was evident the year earlier. MCi continue to expect a stuttering recovery in the short term, with growth slowly gaining momentum over the next five years.
