After researching the UK express delivery development and taking into account various other factors the following conclusions can be drawn from MBD's report:
MARKET REVIEW 2003-2007:
The value of the UK express delivery market increased by an estimated 6% to £4982 million in 2007, continuing the growth trend evident in recent years. Indeed, annual levels of growth oscillated around 6% and 7%. Overall, demand for express delivery services is believed to have increased by a cumulative 29% between 2003 and the latest year.
In volume terms, demand for express delivery services has also been increased throughout the review period. In the latest year, the number of packages is estimated to have reached 1295.5 million, representing an increase of 7% in the year and of 27% compared with the beginning of the review period.
MARKET FORECAST 2008-2012:
The value of the express delivery market is projected to increase during each year of the forecast period, with annual levels of growth remaining relatively static at around 4%. In 2008, more moderate growth of 3% is anticipated, partly reflecting the economic slowdown. In 2012, demand for express delivery services is expected to reach £5909 million (at 2007 prices), representing 19% real term growth compared the latter year of the review period. Key drivers of the express delivery market are expected to include the continued development of the e-commerce market and the trend towards short-term, guaranteed deliveries.
In volume terms, demand for express delivery services is expected to follow a similar trend to that of value sales. The volume of packages is projected to reach 1544.1 million in 2012, equivalent to overall growth of 19% compared with 2007.
