The dentist sector continues to demonstrate strong underlying growth, and this was reflected in 2008 (as the recession initially impacted the market) and even in 2010, when there were signs of a recovery. However, the market fell by 3% in 2009 as the recession clearly deterred individuals in times of economic uncertainty from undergoing treatments. Marginal declines have also been recorded in 2011 and 2012, as the recession resurfaced, and treatments deemed to be non essential were delayed.

Market Forecast 2013-2017:

UK Expenditure on Dentistry Forecast to Increase to £11999 million by 2017
Total UK expenditure on GDS and private dental care including cosmetic procedures is projected to increase over the review period, with growth being evident in each year. Economic circumstances determine that the growth will increase as the period under review extends and the economy starts to improve as well as the potential impact of changes from the NHS currently being piloted.
