Prior to that the value of the market increased at an annual rate of between 7% and 8% in the years 2006 to 2008. The market is not believed to have been as severely affected by the recession as other sectors of the retail market, as many people who spend on complementary medicine do so on a regular basis and consider it essential and not something linked to concerns about prosperity. Overall between 2006 and 2010 the value of the UK market for herbal, homeopathic and aromatherapy products is believed to have increased by 7%.

Market Forecast 2011-2015:

The UK market for Herbal, Homeopathic and Aromatherapy products is expected to decline by 2% in real terms in 2011, reflecting the continued decline in consumer confidence and possible reduced spending following the increase in the rate of VAT. Nonetheless, by 2015, sales are projected to reach £207 million at 2010 prices, representing a cumulative increase of 10% compared with 2010. This is largely attributed to the continued ageing of the UK population, and the increasing integration of CAM therapies and traditional medicine, alongside increased media coverage.
