After researching the UK ceramic tiles market development and taking into account various other factors the following conclusions can be drawn from MBD's report:
MARKET REVIEW 2003-2007:
In 2007, the UK market for ceramic tiles declined by a modest 1% in volume terms, to 92 million m², reversing the trend for growth demonstrated between 2003 and 2006. The strongest increase was reported in 2006, when growth of 18% took volume sales to a peak of 93.1 million m². Overall, demand for ceramic tiles increased by a cumulative 36% during the period under review. Demand for ceramic tiles has mainly been driven by a buoyant construction market, in particular in the in the private and public residential sectors. The commercial construction sector has also demonstrated strong growth during a number of years. In 2007, sales growth is believed to have moderated during the second half of the year, reflecting a slowdown in the housing market and increased economic uncertainties.
MARKET FORECAST 2008-2011:
The UK market for ceramic tiles is expected to demonstrate overall growth of 7% in volume terms between 2007 and 2012. Volume sales are expected to decline during the beginning of the forecast period, reflecting uncertain economic conditions. This downward trend is projected to be reversed in 2010, with growth anticipated during the remainder of the forecast period. In 2012, a 4% increase is expected to take volume sales to 98.4 million m².
