After researching the UK business computing market development and taking into account various other factors the following conclusions can be drawn from MBD's report:
MARKET REVIEW 2004-2008:
In 2008, the UK market for business computing is believed to have increased by 4% reaching an estimated £34.27 billion, representing a slightly reduced rate of growth in comparison with the previous years under review. Indeed during the first four years of the review period considerable growth was recorded during each year, with annual levels peaking at 11% in 2005. Overall, market growth reflects the continued development in technology and investment in IT in the commercial sector, along with increased levels of government spending on IT during the review period. Indeed, public sector spending has been a key driver of the business computing market in recent years, although spending in this sector is expected to slow in the short- to medium-term. The more moderate increases in both 2007 and 2008 are a reflection of the economic downturn affecting spending on business computing in the private sector.
MARKET FORECAST 2009-2013:
The UK market for business computing is forecast to increase in real terms during each year of the forecast period to reach £38.83 billion in 2013 (at 2008 prices). However annual increases are anticipated to increase from a marginal level at the beginning of the review period to 4% growth in real terms by 2013. Overall an increase of 14% in real terms is projected compared with 2008. MBD have revised previous forecasts downwards further to more moderate levels, reflecting the current slowdown in the economy resulting in tighter corporate budgets as well as more moderate growth expected in public sector IT spending.
