After researching the UK business computing market development and taking into account various other factors the following conclusions can be drawn from MBD's report:
MARKET REVIEW 2003-2007:
In 2007, the UK market for business computing is believed to have increased by a nominal 6% to £32.69 billion. This follows slightly stronger annual growth of 8% and 11% in the previous four years. The more moderate increase during 2007 is mainly a reflection of increased economic uncertainties affecting spending on business computing in the private sector. The overall positive market development reflects the continued investment in new technology and IT in the commercial sector, along with increased levels of government spending on IT during the review period. Indeed, public sector spending has been a key driver of the business computing market in recent years, although spending in this sector is expected to slow in the short- to medium-term.
MARKET FORECAST 2008-2012:
The UK market for business computing is forecast to increase throughout the five year forecast period up to 2012, with annual growth levels expected to fluctuate between 3% and 5% in real terms. MBD have revised previous forecasts downwards to more moderate levels, reflecting the current slowdown in economic growth resulting in tighter corporate budgets as well as more moderate growth expected in public sector IT spending. Despite more difficult trading conditions a positive market development is forecast in each year up to 2012, reflecting continued demand for new hardware, company-specific software, the trend towards outsourcing and ever increasing security measures. Overall, the UK market for business computing is anticipated to increase by a cumulative 21% in real terms between 2007 and 2012.
