After researching the UK bathroom equipment market development and taking into account various other factors the following conclusions can be drawn from MBD's report:
MARKET REVIEW 2005-2009:
In 2009, the UK market for bathroom equipment is believed to have declined by 17% to £2.002 billion at RSP, reversing the trend for growth evident in earlier years and continuing the trend for reduction in 2008. This reflects the slower growth in the UK construction market due to the current economic downturn. Overall between 2005 and 2009 the value of the sector is projected to have contracted in size by a cumulative 10%.
MARKET FORECAST 2010-2014:
The current economic downturn is projected to continue to exert a negative impact on the sector and hence it is expected to contract by 2% to £1.966 billion. Once the wider UK economy has firmly begun to enter a period of recovery MBD expect the sector to increase in value year-on-year with annual growth rates of between 3% and 6% anticipated reaching £2.359 billion by 2014. Construction in the public non residential sector is anticipated to be a driver of the market following the adverse impact of the recession. For example, the Building Schools for the Future programme will entail refurbishing or rebuilding every secondary school to 21st century standards over the next ten to fifteen years, driving demand for bathroom equipment, especially in the toiletware/sanitaryware and bathroom accessories sectors.
