After researching the UK architectural ironmongery market development and taking into account various other factors the following conclusions can be drawn from MCi's report:

Market Review 2007-2011:

Following the major declines in demand for door and window locks in 2008 and 2009 when sales fell by 10% and 15% respectively, the recovery has been somewhat muted. Nonetheless, sales growth of almost 8% was achieved in 2010, but the level of growth could not be sustained in 2011 and only 3% growth saw sales reach £285.1 million.

The value of the door furniture market has demonstrated a similar overall trend, with reductions in demand of 11% in 2008 and 16% in 2009. The recovery in 2010 was somewhat stronger at 13% growth, but this growth tailed off in 2011 with sales reaching £272.8 million

Market Forecast 2012-2016:

The UK market for architectural ironmongery is expected to demonstrate a very slow level of growth over the next few years.

Demand for door and window locks is expected to increase in each year over the next five years, but growth rates are likely to remain subdued.

Sales of door furniture are expected to demonstrate slightly stronger growth, and the levels of growth are expected to increase as the period under review progresses.

Furniture hinge sales are also expected to demonstrate consistent levels of growth over the next few years, but the rates of growth will remain below 3% per annum.

Demand for door controls is projected to increase in each year under review, and the growth rates will increase as the period progresses as well as being the strongest of all the sectors within the architectural ironmongery market.
