RELEASED: JUNE 2005
After researching the UK adhesives market development and taking into account various other factors the following conclusions can be drawn from MBD's report:
MARKET REVIEW 2000-2004:
The UK market for adhesives has demonstrated growth throughout the five years ending in 2004 in volume terms. However, annual growth levels have remained moderate, not exceeding 1%. In 2004, an estimated 1% increase took demand for adhesives to 208 700 tonnes, equivalent to overall growth of 3% compared with 2000.
In value terms, demand is believed to have demonstrated a similar trend as in volume terms, culminating in nominal growth of an estimated 5% between 2000 and 2004. In the latter year, the market is estimated at £328.9 million, representing modest growth of 1% in the year.
MARKET FORECAST 2005-2009:
The market for adhesives is expected to demonstrate growth throughout the five years up to 2009, albeit at moderate levels. Indeed annual growth levels are not expected to exceed 1%. In 2009 the market is anticipated to reach 215 700 tonnes, representing an increase of 3% compared with 2004. Growth is believed to be generated particularly from the construction market, though the sector remains cyclical. Demand for adhesives is also expected to further rise from the packaging sector. Developments in adhesive technology are expected to assist market growth in engineering sectors as adhesives are used increasingly in the automotive sector and indeed in other mechanical engineering applications. However, stronger growth is believed to be hindered by a decline in demand from more mature end-use industries.
