After researching the UK access control market development and taking into account various other factors the following conclusions can be drawn from MBD's report:

Market Review 2006-2010:

In 2010, the value of the access control market (including sales and rental income) is believed to have increased by 3% to a peak of £699 million. This consolidates only marginal growth reported in 2009, which MBD believe is largely a reflection of the adverse economic climate, lower levels of business investment and reduced construction output, in particular the private commercial sector. Prior to this, the value of the access control market increased by 5% in both 2006 and 2007, however, growth levels slowed to 3% in 2008. Overall, the value of the market increased by an estimated 12% in nominal terms between 2006 and 2010. Market development in recent years has been partly driven by the development of more sophisticated and higher value systems. Furthermore, demand has been generated by the heightened perceived threat of terrorism, which has increased the focus on security in commercial and public buildings. Insurance requirements have also become more stringent in recent years, increasing demand for access control equipment.

Market Forecast 2011-2015:

The value of the UK access control market (including sales and rental income) is anticipated to increase over the next five years, with annual growth levels projected to fluctuate between moderate 1% and 4% in real terms. Overall, the value of the market is projected to increase by a cumulative 15% in real terms between 2010 and 2015, peaking at an estimated £802 million (at 2010 prices) in the latter year. A stronger development is expected to be hindered by increased competition from cheap imports from the Far East, in particular at the lower end of the market.
